I’m not sure where I’m going?

Sometimes life can feel like travelling down a long, straight road – with no real destination in mind.

Perhaps you can’t quite remember how you got here. Did someone encourage you to take this path? Were you just following the expectations of others? Was it simply the quickest way to get away from a situation you didn’t want to be in?

Perhaps you consciously chose this road many years ago, but you’ve changed and your priorities have changed too.

Whatever the reason, there’s a persistent feeling that something just isn’t right.

You continue moving forward, but without a strong sense of purpose or direction. You notice different opportunities and possibilities along the way and wonder where they might lead. Sometimes you decide ‘yes, it’s time for a change’… only to find yourself continuing down the same familiar road.

Many people describe this experience as feeling ‘stuck’, ‘disconnected’ or ‘on autopilot’.

I’m not sure where to go?

Sometimes the challenge is different.  You’ve reached the end of that familiar road, and now find yourself standing at a crossroads. Perhaps you’ve entered a new stage of life – such as retirement, parenthood, an empty nest, separation, illness, redundancy or the loss of someone important.

Life has changed, and now you’re faced with a decision…

Do you turn left?
Turn right?
Keep going?

The difficulty is that every option involves uncertainty. Many people become frustrated with themselves for not making a decision, when in reality they are simply trying to avoid making the wrong one.

Of course you’re hesitant. The decision matters!

Why is it so hard to move forward?

Sometimes people assume they must lack motivation, or confidence, or discipline.

More often, there is something deeper occurring. Perhaps you’re afraid of making a mistake. Perhaps you’re worried about disappointing others. Perhaps you’ve spent so many years meeting other people’s needs, that you’ve lost sight of what matters most to you.

Or perhaps you’ve simply outgrown a version of your life that once made sense but no longer fits who you are today.

Understanding these concerns is often the key to moving forward.

How will counselling help?

No doubt you’ve already spent a great deal of time thinking about your situation. Perhaps you’ve written lists, set goals, developed plans or sought advice from people you trust. Yet despite your best efforts, you still feel uncertain.

Our approach is to take an important step back. Before deciding where you’re going next, it can be helpful to understand how you arrived here.

Together, we may explore your personal history, significant life events, important relationships and the choices that have shaped your journey so far.

In particular, we seek to understand what matters most to you.

What are your values?
Where did they come from?
Which ones still serve you well?
Which ones may need revisiting?

As this picture becomes clearer, we can begin exploring who you want to be moving forward and how closely your current life aligns with that vision.

Often, the problem isn’t a lack of options – it’s a lack of clarity.

What’s the best approach for me?

There is no single formula for finding direction or navigating major life transitions.

For some people, the focus is on understanding their values and reconnecting with a sense of purpose.

For others, it involves overcoming fears, challenging limiting beliefs, exploring new possibilities or developing confidence in making important decisions.

Rather than telling you which road to take, counselling provides a space to explore the options available to you and understand the hopes, fears and assumptions influencing your choices.

This is a creative and collaborative process. Together, we can identify what is holding you back, generate new possibilities and evaluate the paths available to you.

Ultimately, the decision will always be yours.

Our role is not to choose the destination for you, but to help you navigate the journey with greater confidence, clarity and purpose.
