Counselling Tailored to You

We are all different. Every person arrives with a unique life story, different experiences, and their own hopes for the future – for this very reason, there is no single counselling approach that is right for everyone.

The approaches below are supported by research and have been shown to be effective for a wide range of concerns.

Rather than applying a common method to every client, we draw on elements from each approach to create a counselling experience that is tailored to your individual needs, goals and circumstances.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Its 3am. Once again you lie awake, feeling overwhelmed by the same ‘washing machine’ of thoughts and feelings that cycle around in your mind, without an end in sight.

Our thoughts, emotions and behaviours are closely connected. Sometimes we can become trapped in patterns of thinking that increase anxiety, stress, depression, or self-criticism.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy helps identify unhelpful thought patterns and explore more balanced and realistic ways of responding. By developing practical strategies and new ways of thinking, clients can often experience greater emotional wellbeing and confidence in managing life’s challenges.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy

You take a deep breath, pick up a pen and notepad, and once again try to think it through…
But the problem seems too difficult, too complex, and too painful to overcome.
You give up – feeling exhausted, frustrated and perhaps defeated by the constant worry.

When we are struggling, it is easy to become consumed by the problem itself. Yet even during difficult times, there are often strengths, resources and past successes that can help guide us forward.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy focuses less on analysing problems and more on identifying what is already working, what matters most to you, and what small steps could move you closer to your preferred future. The approach is practical, collaborative and hopeful.

Motivational Interviewing

Here we are again. The same fork in the road. To the right, you see the path that could move your life in a positive direction. To the left, is the familiar path that will take you straight back to the sadness and pain. You struggle to choose, but then turn left again…’

Many people find themselves feeling stuck between wanting change and feeling uncertain about taking the next step. This is a normal part of being human.

Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative approach that helps people explore their own reasons for change. Rather than being told what to do, clients are supported to clarify their goals, strengthen motivation, and build confidence in their ability to make meaningful changes in their lives.

Narrative Therapy

Sometimes you think ‘I know who I am’. Yet sometimes you question this story of what happened to you and who you have become? Right or wrong, you’re feeling stuck in this version of your life story. One that focuses more on ‘what has gone wrong’, than ‘what is now possible’.

The way we understand our lives is often shaped by the stories we tell ourselves about who we are, what has happened to us, and what we believe is possible for our future. Sometimes these stories become dominated by loss, trauma, failure, or self-doubt.

Narrative Therapy helps us step back and examine these stories with curiosity and compassion. By exploring alternative perspectives, recognising strengths, and separating ourselves from our problems, we can develop a richer and more balanced understanding of our lives.

This process can create new possibilities for growth, resilience, and positive change.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy

‘It is what it is’. So easy to say, yet so hard to embrace. If only you could genuinely blend this philosophy into your own thinking, you can almost feel the emotional relief…

Life inevitably involves pain, uncertainty and difficult emotions. Often our struggle with these experiences can create even greater distress.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy helps people develop a different relationship with their thoughts and feelings. Rather than fighting or avoiding difficult experiences, clients learn skills to respond more flexibly, remain present, and take actions that are guided by their values. The focus is on building a rich and meaningful life, even when challenges are present.
